KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE

Whilst a student’s selection of a tutor is under the control of the student, Script’Ed has taken various steps to ensure that a tutor is trustworthy and a student is safe.

SAFETY STEPS TAKEN

  1. Screening of Tutors

tutors listed on the site, must provide the following:

  • a copy of an identity document, a clear profile picture, and, if applicable, work permit, which confirms the tutor’s name, surname, gender and date of birth and phone number.
  • an up-to-date curriculum vitae
  • a valid police clearance
  • proof of address and education qualifications.
  • acceptance of Script’Ed’s Terms.

Tutors are screened against the National Register for Sexual Offenders (NRSO) by a partner organization – The Guardian – or by going to their local police station to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate.

  1. Lesson selection process
  • If a student decides to submit their name onto the site through the request a tutor application, the tutor will only see the student’s name, suburb and tutoring request. The student’s contact details are only conveyed to the tutor once the tutor has accepted the student’s request.
  • The site does not have filters to ensure that tutors are paired with students of the same gender. This is not always the case and choice of tutor is at the complete discretion of the student.

  1. Post first Tutor-Student lesson
  • Script’Ed will contact the student and tutor to ensure the lesson was relevant and met the standards expected.
  • Script’Ed will request the student to provide a review of the tutor to assist future students wanting to use the tutor.
  • If a student is unhappy with a tutor, or vice versa, Script’Ed will endeavour to replace the tutor, failing which future lessons will be cancelled and where appropriate a refund provided.

GOOD PRACTICES

Review student feedback

Look at the student review section of the tutor profile to see lesson ratings and student reviews from previous tutors. You are also free to request outside references from the tutor.

Meet in public

Always tell someone in your family or a friend where you are going and when you will return. Always provide your own transportation to and from your lesson and meet in a public place with many people around such as a library or coffee shop.

Have an adult present

An adult should always be present for tutoring sessions if the student is under the age of eighteen.

Keep personal information private

Never include your last name, home address, phone number, place of work, or any other identifying information in initial e-mail messages or communications. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or attempts in any way to trick you into revealing it.
